Hello, my name is Daktari, I’m a male Western Screech Owl and I hatched on 1st June 2016. My Latin name is Megascops Kennicottii. I don’t actually screech, instead my call is like a low pitched whistle that speeds up towards the end. Despite my size, I can actually catch a bird as large as a grouse. I come from Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Oklahoma, in fact, all of the west of American, hence my name, Western Screech. I can be found in open woodlands, deserts, suburban areas and parks.
