Hello, my name is Leopold and I’m a male Bengal Eagle Owl. I hatched on 19th April 2011. My Latin name is Bubo Bengalensis.
Bengal Eagle Owls usually hunt from a perch, but we will also make low foraging flights to dive on prey. We primarily hunt rats and mice, but also peacocks and bats.
We usually nest in a shallow scrape on bare earth. This may be on a protected rock ledge, river bank, or a recess in a cliff of a ravine where I come from in India, Nepal and Pakistan.
I am also called the Rock Eagle Owl, a species of large Horned Owls found in South Asia.
My voice is a deep, resonant, double hoot bu-whooh, I’ll repeat this at intervals of several seconds.
I eat day old chicks, rats, mice and rabbit, but my favourite is quail.
